LegalTech Startups Surge as GEN AI Transforms Legal Services

The legal industry is undergoing a rapid transformation as generative AI becomes a key driver of innovation. Tasks once handled manually—such as document review, contract drafting, legal research, and translation—are now being streamlined with AI tools. This shift is fueling the rise of LegalTech startups that aim to improve efficiency across law firms and corporate legal teams.

Since the emergence of ChatGPT, generative AI has been widely adopted as a core solution in the legal sector. The technology’s ability to automate repetitive tasks is not only saving time but also reshaping how legal services are delivered.

This momentum is being mirrored in the investment landscape. Globally, startups such as Harvey, Luminance, and Legora have each raised over $100 million in 2025. In Korea, companies like LBox and BHSN are gaining traction with large-scale investments. At the Korea LegalTech Forum 2025, experts emphasized the importance of adopting legal AI while noting that full automation of legal professionals remains unlikely.

Below is an overview of five Korean LegalTech startups currently making waves

Among the most prominent players in Korea’s LegalTech scene is LBox, founded in 2019. The company operates a widely used case law search platform with approximately half of the nation’s lawyers registered as members. Its clientele includes major corporations such as Samsung Electronics and SK, as well as leading law firms. In 2025, LBox secured a 30 billion won Series C investment, following its acquisition of legal research platform CaseNote in 2024. In addition to its flagship service, LBox offers ‘LFind,’ an AI-powered lawyer discovery tool, and ‘LBox AI,’ a conversational legal search solution tailored to professionals.

Another fast-growing startup is BHSN, established in 2020. The company develops AI-based legal solutions grounded in its proprietary Korean legal language model, BHSN-BERT. In 2025, BHSN raised 10 billion won in a Series B round to support the expansion of its product suite. Its offerings include ‘Alibi,’ a comprehensive AI legal platform, ‘Alibi CLM’ for contract lifecycle management, and ‘Alibi ELM’ for corporate legal departments, aiming to streamline workflows across the legal process.

BearingLab, founded in 2018, focuses on AI-based legal translation services. Backed by a network of over 400 lawyer-translators, the company has gained recognition for its multilingual capabilities. In 2024, BearingLab attracted a 3 billion won Pre-Series A investment, with 20% of that year’s revenue generated from overseas clients. Its flagship product, ‘BearingAI+,’ is an AI-powered legal translation engine designed to handle complex cross-border legal documents with precision.

Law&Company, a veteran in the field established in 2012, operates ‘LawTalk,’ Korea’s leading online legal consultation platform. The platform has facilitated over 640,000 consultations and sees an average of one million monthly visitors. The company raised 23 billion won in Series C funding in 2023 and further expanded its capabilities through the 2025 acquisition of Lawtime Biztech. In addition to LawTalk, its key offerings include ‘Super Lawyer,’ an AI legal assistant, and ‘BigCase,’ a case law search tool.

Rounding out the list is Law&Good, founded in 2020. The company runs a B2B legal platform that features only seasoned lawyers with more than five years of experience, many of whom hail from large firms. Law&Good secured 7 billion won in Series A2 funding in 2023. Its services include an AI legal chatbot called ‘LawSearch,’ a remote lawyer appointment system, and ‘CaseMaster,’ which provides court schedule notifications to clients and attorneys.

In addition to these five companies, a growing cohort of early-stage LegalTech startups—such as NexusAI, AmicusLex, LegalCare, AILingo, LexiNaptics, LegalJustia, LawyerD Company, and Lawply—have secured seed investments. As the legal profession continues to seek more efficient and scalable solutions, LegalTech startups are expected to play an increasingly vital role in the sector’s evolution.
