Karrot, the global secondhand market app operated by South Korean tech company Danggeun, has surpassed 2 million cumulative users in Canada, marking a significant milestone in its international growth. This achievement comes just eight months after the service reached 1 million users in May 2023, a milestone that previously took two years to attain.

The rapid expansion of Karrot across Canada—excluding the French-speaking province of Quebec—has been driven by its community-focused approach and emphasis on neighborhood-based interactions. The company has strategically concentrated its efforts on major urban centers, including Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton, implementing a hyperlocal model that utilizes GPS-based authentication for secondhand transactions.
Karrot’s success in Canada is a key component of Danggeun’s broader global expansion strategy. The platform is now available in over 1,400 regions across four countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, and parts of Japan. The company sees its growth in Canada as a crucial step toward further expansion in the North American market.
Founded in 2015, Danggeun has rapidly established itself as a leader in the online marketplace sector. The company achieved unicorn status in 2021 and continues to demonstrate strong growth, with more than 36 million cumulative subscribers and nearly 19 million monthly active users as of the end of 2023.
