Wrtn Technologies Raises KRW 100 Billion Series C, Becomes Korea’s First AI Service Unicorn

sungho-choo - 2026 August 27

Wrtn Technologies, a South Korean generative AI service company, has closed a Series C round of KRW 100 billion, pushing its valuation past KRW 1 trillion and making it the first Korean AI service startup to reach unicorn status. The round brings the company’s cumulative funding to approximately KRW 230 billion.

U.S.-based venture capital firm Coreline Ventures and Eugene Asset Management joined as new investors in the round. Existing backers Goodwater Capital, Antler Global, Woori Venture Partners, Sui Generis Partners, the Korea Development Bank, and Capstone Partners all returned with follow-on investments. Coreline Ventures co-founder and partner Osuke Honda said the firm invested because Wrtn’s platform is reshaping “how AI is woven into human creativity, communication, and time spent online.” With this round, Wrtn becomes the fifth Korean AI startup to reach unicorn status, following AI semiconductor companies Rebellions and FuriosaAI, AI entertainment-tech company Galaxy Corporation, and generative AI company Upstage — marking Korea’s first unicorn built specifically around consumer AI services rather than chips or foundation models.

Founded about five years ago and led by CEO Lee Se-young, Wrtn Technologies operates an AI service platform built around generative AI chatbots and content-creation tools. The company’s rapid path to a trillion-won valuation has been driven by fast monetization and aggressive overseas expansion: this year’s revenue is projected to exceed KRW 200 billion, more than four times higher than the prior year, with overseas revenue from services launched in North America now surpassing domestic revenue for the first time.

Wrtn said it will use the new capital to accelerate global expansion, upgrade its core services, and strengthen user-protection policies. With overseas markets, particularly North America, now driving the majority of its revenue growth, the company is positioning international expansion as its primary growth engine going forward, building on the platform and monetization model that helped it reach unicorn status roughly five years after founding.
