EnableFusion Raises KRW 45 Billion Series A to Build a Fusion Foundry Platform

sungho-choo - 2026 September 28

EnableFusion, a South Korean fusion-energy startup, has secured KRW 45 billion in Series A funding, bringing its cumulative capital raised to KRW 56 billion. The round was led by Quantum Ventures Korea and follows the company’s KRW 45 billion contract to supply key fusion equipment to Italy’s DTT project.

Quantum Ventures Korea led the round, with participation from D3 Jubilee Partners, Company K Partners, Enlight Ventures, POSCO Technology Investment, and Changduk DS Asset Management Chairman Jang Deok-soo. Additional strategic and institutional investors also joined, bringing the total number of investors to roughly 10.

The fundraising follows EnableFusion’s successful entry into the international fusion supply chain. The company secured a contract worth approximately €26 million (about KRW 45 billion) with the Italian DTT project consortium to supply key fusion equipment, marking what has been described as Korea’s first fusion-technology export. The contract provided investors with a commercial validation point for the company’s fusion-equipment platform.

Founded in South Korea in December 2023, EnableFusion is the country’s first fusion-focused startup. It does not attempt to build a complete fusion reactor itself. Instead, the company operates a “fusion foundry” platform that designs, sources, and delivers the specialized components and equipment needed by fusion developers around the world.

EnableFusion draws on a network of roughly 250 Korean precision-manufacturing companies that have participated in the construction of Korea’s KSTAR tokamak and the international ITER fusion project. The company combines these manufacturing capabilities with engineering expertise to act as a design-and-procurement partner for fusion developers, pursuing a model comparable to a fabless or foundry business in the semiconductor industry.

The company was founded by fusion scientist Lee Kyung-soo, who led development of Korea’s KSTAR and served as deputy director-general of the ITER Organization, and is led by CEO Choi Doo-hwan, a former CEO of KT and POSCO DX. Beyond precision manufacturing for fusion devices, EnableFusion is expanding into four major areas: precision manufacturing, fusion AI, high-temperature superconductors (HTS), and tritium fuel.

EnableFusion said it will use the new capital to expand its four core business areas, with a particular focus on scaling its precision-manufacturing platform, developing AI engineering tools for fusion design and operations, advancing HTS technology, and building capabilities related to tritium fuel. The company aims to deepen its role as a global fusion-equipment partner while expanding its customer base beyond the Italian DTT project.
