Foreign entrepreneurs looking to launch or scale their businesses in Korea now have a new opportunity, as applications for the 2026 Global Startup Commercialization Program are officially open. The initiative is designed to draw high-potential founders from around the world, supporting both market entry and early-stage growth while strengthening Korea’s standing as a globally connected startup hub.
To lower the barrier to entry, the entire process — from application through evaluation — is carried out in English. Accepted startups will receive an average of KRW 50 million in funding, up to a maximum of KRW 80 million. These funds are earmarked for commercialization activities such as product and service development, market localization, intellectual property acquisition, and marketing efforts.
Financial support is just one piece of the package. Through the Global Startup Center (GSC), participants also gain access to workspace, legal and marketing advisory services, investor networking, and partnership opportunities with established Korean companies — providing a clear runway for both immediate market entry and sustainable long-term growth.
The program has been gaining momentum. In 2025, it attracted a competition ratio of 13 to 1, a testament to the growing global interest in Korea’s startup landscape. Among its success stories is Polymerize, a materials-tech startup that used AI-driven models to predict material development and entered the Korean market in September 2024. Since joining through this program and the K-Startup Grand Challenge, the company has created 11 local jobs.
Reflecting that rising demand, the 2026 edition marks a notable expansion. The number of participating startups has grown from 10 to 15, and funding levels have been raised — up from an average of KRW 40 million (previously capped at KRW 60 million) to the current figures.
Applications are open online through the Global Startup Center website at www.startup-korea.com from March 18 to April 10. Additional information is available via MSS and the K-Startup platform.
